The mailing list
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L@cornell.edu is intended to be a way for you to receive announcements about important events in the CLASSE computing environment. Only urgent notices will be sent to this list. Less important news will continue to be available in other ways. Unlike the all-staff mailing list used for the Newsletter, which is maintained by CLASSE administrative staff, you are the one who decides if you want to get these urgent news announcements.
To join this e-list
The easiest way to subscribe to the list classe-it-news-l probably would be to send a message to
service-classe@cornell.edu asking for your e'mail address to be added to the mailing list classe-it-news-l. Alternatively, the instructions below explain how to subscribe or unsubscribe on your own.
To start receiving urgent notices, send an email message to
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L-request@cornell.edu
Leave the subject line blank. The body of the message should be a single word:
join
Notes:
- Send this message in plain text - no formatting or fonts or colors.
- Send this message FROM the email address where you want to receive messages posted to the e-list.
- If you ever want to stop receiving messages, you will have to send your unsubscription from that same address.
Sending a message to the e-list is not allowed.
This e-list is strictly for announcements from the CLASSE (LEPP and CHESS) IT staff.
If you have questions about any of the announcements, please contact the CLASSE staff directly. For example, you could send email to
service-classe@cornell.edu
To leave this e-list
When you no longer want to receive urgent computer status notices, send an email message to
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L-request@cornell.edu
Leave the subject line blank. The body of the message should be a single word:
leave
Notes:
- Send this message in plain text - no formatting or fonts or colors.
- Send this message FROM the email address that you used when you initially subscribed to the e-list. If you have your email forwarded to another address, sending a
leave from that second address will
not work.
You can choose how to receive messages
Messages sent to you from the e-list can be sent in one of four ways:
- Mail - (this is the default method) You receive each posting as an individual email message.
- Digest - You receive only a message a day. It contains all of the postings for that day.
- MIME Digest - You receive one message a day. Each posting for the day is delivered as an attachment to that message.
- Nomail - You do not receive any messages posted to the list, perhaps while you are on vacation. When you want to resume receiving messages, send another SET command specifying one of the other three choices.
To change the way you receive messages for a particular list, send an email message to
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L-request@cornell.edu
Leave the subject line blank. The body of the message should be a single line with the following format:
set
option
where you replace the word "option" with one of the following four values:
mail
digest
mimedigest
nomail
Notes:
- Send this message in plain text - no formatting or fonts or colors.
- Send this message FROM the email address where you subscribed to the e-list. If you have your email forwarded from there to another address, commands sent from that second address will
not work.
For more information, or if you have problems unsubscribing or changing how you receive the notices, you can contact the list administrators via email. Send your message to
owner-CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L@cornell.edu
Alternatively, you can contact CLASSE IT staff by sending email to
service-classe@cornell.edu
Notes:
- Don't forget the "-L" that comes just before "@cornell.edu" in the listname.
- You can send this type of message from any email address, but it may help the list administrator to know what address you use with the list.
