2022: The Year in Review
Happy holidays from CLASSE-IT! When reflecting on the past year, one theme that emerges is the continued evolution towards hybrid work that began nearly three years ago. We have seen persistent demand for remote capabilities, not only from CLASSE personnel, but also facility users and collaborators from other institutions. As a result, we now support a wider variety of computing use cases than ever before, and we are pursuing improved network connectivity and security measures to meet the needs of our community. So, it has been another highly productive year for CLASSE-IT. In a nutshell, there were:
- 2,700 new ServiceRequest tickets submitted by over 460 different users, generating over 19,000 emails.
- 185,000 jobs submitted to the CLASSE Compute Farm, consuming 110 CPU years of computer time.
- 70,000 pages sent to our printers.
- 330 TB of raw data collected by CHESS users.
- Over 50 new desktop and laptop computers deployed (not counting servers).
- Computer and network commissioning at our new Pine Tree Road location, plus 30 new network switches configured.
- Rollout of new web applications for computer account requests and CLASSEGroupManagement.
- Approximately 85 programming projects updated (out of nearly 230 total) in our GitLab code repository.
Throughout the year, we have relied on the support of our colleagues across CLASSE to fulfill our mission. In particular, we would like to thank the many individuals who helped us recover from two major challenges: radiation damage to fiber optic cables in the CESR tunnel and a recent storage array failure. Maintaining smooth operations is indeed a collaborative effort.
The CLASSE-IT team wishes all of you a safe and restful winter break. See you in 2023!
