CLASSE Computing Outage: 28-Jul-2023 to 30-Jul-2023
From Friday, 28-Jul-2023, through Sunday, 30-Jul-2023, a scheduled power outage at Wilson Lab will disrupt CLASSE computing services both onsite and offsite. We expect to have most services restored by Monday, 31-Jul-2023, although some recovery efforts might extend farther into the week.
During the outage, the following CLASSE services
will not be available from any location, onsite or offsite:
- Remote logins via ScreenConnect, NoMachine, etc.
- CLASSE VPN and other CLASSE networks
- Central filesystems, including Samba and Globus
- CLASSE web services: wiki, Indico, Timesheet, CLASSE website, CHESS UserDB, Gitlab, etc.
- AppsAnywhere
- Network license servers (Matlab, Autodesk Vault, Cadence, Mathematica, etc.)
- Compute Farm
- Printing
However, central Cornell services
will be available, e.g. Cornell email, Box, Workday, Zoom, etc. The
CHESS website and
CBB website will also be available.

Timesheet Holidays
Please note that pre-populated holiday time in Timesheet is not the "official" record of Cornell holidays. For example, the Juneteenth holiday was missing from Timesheet, but users can easily add (or remove) holiday time to make a correction. The Juneteenth holiday will be added for next year. But note these holidays are dynamically created and may not be accurate if the holiday falls on a weekend.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
