CHESS User file system maintenance - 10am Tuesday, January 17
At 10am on Tuesday, January 17, the CHESS User directory (/nfs/chess/aux/user) will be moved to a new file system. When the move is done, the file system will be available at /nfs/chess/user and \\chesssamba\user. Links will be created so that all of the old paths will continue to work.
Any processes writing to /nfs/chess/aux/user will need to be restarted once the move is complete, but other than that, the move should be transparent.
Over the holiday break, CLASSE's Document Database (AKA EDMS - Electronic Document Management System) at https://documents.classe.cornell.edu/
was upgraded so that documents are now restricted using CLASSE users and groups - the same users and groups used to restrict access to computers, file systems, and wiki and web pages.
CLASSE's Document Database is an electronic library serving as CLASSE's central document database - storing both private and public documents, proposals, publications, procedures, and figures.
Please see DocumentDatabase
for our internal documentation and a list of features, and email firstname.lastname@example.org
with any questions or requests to store new collections or documents.

Newman 2nd Floor Printer
- We will be replacing the n223_br_5370 printer early next week. The new printer will be called n223_br_6200. Please change your default printer when the change is made.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter
and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L
, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM
, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations
