Network interruptions, Tuesday 01-Aug-2017
We will be performing network maintenance on Tuesday 01-Aug-2017 from 9 AM to noon. During this window, there will be 20-30 minute interruptions on various segments of our network (e.g. Public, ERL, CHESS-DAQ), which would affect access to central filesystems (a.k.a. samba), web browsing, CLASSE/CHESS/CBB website availability, and printing/scanning. Please
contact us with any concerns.
New PSB Color printer/copier/scanner
There is a new color printer/copier/scanner on the fourth floor of the PSB near the two current printers. The new printer's queue name is PSB4_Konica_C368. The print queue is available from Linux and Windows CLASSE-managed computers. Please
contact us if you experience problems printing to this printer.
Outlook searching
Please report all problems with Outlook Search to the
CIT helpdesk.
Several people have reported to us that the Search option in Outlook does not always find messages that it should. Unfortunately, this is a known problem which Microsoft will have to fix. Letting CIT know the details of your problems with it will help to get it fixed.
Two-step login update
Reminder: CIT will shortly be requiring all staff to use Two-Step logins. Please contact the CIT help desk if you have any problems with it. Also, please verify that your 2-Step devices have valid telephone numbers.
At the end of April, Cornell employees who had not yet opened a Two-Step Login account were mass enrolled using a phone number drawn from the campus directory or, if nothing reasonable was found, a fake number (607-999-9999). This left many people unable to access to use Two-Step Login, either because they got the fake phone number or because the number that was enrolled wasn't one they could use as a device for two-factor authentication.
People in this situation can
contact the CIT helpdesk to have their account released. Here is the CIT Two-Step info page:

Mail routing changes
CIT will soon change how email is handled, including the retirement of WhoIAm and how mail forwarding is handled. For details, please see

Initial testing starts this week for CIT staff and will be rolled out to everyone later this year.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
