Firefox User Installations
The centrally-managed Firefox update that was
announced last week will be postponed until a later date. In the meantime, if you need to use Firefox (rather than
Vivaldi, our primary supported web browser), please follow
these instructions for migrating to a user-installed version. Since Firefox on CLASSE computers is now deprecated, a user installation of Firefox will allow for its continued use where necessary. Also, please submit a
ServiceRequest with any job-related websites that still require Firefox, so that we can attempt to reproduce your problem.
CLASSE Account Renewals
In March 2021, we introduced a new
web-based system to streamline the process of renewing CLASSE computer accounts. CLASSE accounts for long-term personnel and collaborators are valid for two years, regardless of employment status. Two weeks before accounts expire, users are automatically notified with an email (click
here for an example) containing a link to the
account renewal site. This site may also be used to verify account expiration dates. If you have any questions about your CLASSE account, please do not hesitate to submit a
ServiceRequest. Also, please note that different policies apply to short-term CLASSE accounts for CHESS users.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
