Wilson Lab Computing Outage: Tuesday, 02-Oct-2018 @ 9:00 AM
On Tuesday, 02-Oct-2018 at 9:00 AM, there will be a CLASSE computing disruption for some users because of a scheduled power outage in Wilson Lab. Based on the previous power outage last week, the disruptions will be limited to printers and end-user computers on the second and third floors of Wilson Lab. CLASSE central services and Cornell wifi will not be affected. Although the power outage is scheduled to end at 10:00 AM, there may be network glitches for some time thereafter. Please report any extended service outages via a
ServiceRequest.
AppsAnywhere for Windows
Since July, we have been preparing to deploy a new self-service Windows software delivery solution, called
AppsAnywhere. If you are using a CLASSE-managed Windows system, you may have noticed an AppsAnywhere splash screen appearing at login time, followed by installation of CloudPaging Player. Over the next month, we will be providing more information about how to use this new tool.
AppsAnywhere is an
application virtualization platform that allows CLASSE software to be used on demand. Simply download the desired software package from our AppsAnywhere portal and run it. There is no need to request a software installation. We plan to make many of our commonly used software titles available in this manner.
Reboot of LNX201: Thursday, 04-Oct-2018 @ 12:00 noon
On Thursday, 04-Oct-2018, at 12:00 noon, we will reboot LNX201 (our general purpose Linux login node) for routine udpates. Down-time is expected to be less than 30 minutes.
Providing a WBS
We know it's an inconvenience, but.... when you submit a
ServiceRequest that takes a measureable amount of our effort, we are required to ask you for a
WBS to charge our time to. A WBS is a CLASSE accounting code, and if you do not have one available, then a Cornell account number may be used instead. For audit compliance reasons, all of our effort must be charged to a specific project whenever possible, and not to any general WBSs. Thanks for your understanding!
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
