Scientific Linux 5
LEPP is in the process of transitioning from 32-bit Scientific Linux 4 (SL4) to 64-bit Scientific Linux 5 (SL5). During February, Linux farm nodes will be upgraded to 64-bit SL5. In addition, new deployments will run 64-bit SL5 wherever possible. For more information on using 64-bit SL5, please see

Windows XP Printing
Please make sure that when you are adding a printer to your printer list that you choose that printer from pc221, NOT PC00 or PC69. Make sure the printers you have are from pc221. If you have a printer from pc00 or PC69, please delete that printer and pick it up from pc221.
Windows XP domain changes from LNSNTCAD to CLASSE
We have started testing moving XP computers from the LNSTTCAD domain to the Active Directory CLASSE domain. So far, we have found the changes to be similar to those seen when getting a new Windows 7 computer, except without getting a new computer or needing all the software to be reinstalled. However, your Windows profile has to be reinitialized and some software may need to be reconfigured.
These changes are so that the Lab's XP computers will be connecting to supported servers. Some benefits are that all CLASSE domain members have no profile quotas, printers are automatically configured for you and log in times are (after the first setup login) generally faster than LNSNTCAD login times since profiles do not need to be downloaded.
Note: We do not yet have a schedule for migrating XP computers to the CLASSE domain. This is for informational purposes only, and to let you know that changes will be coming in the future.
The LEPP Computer group will contact you directly when we are ready to schedule changing your computer to the CLASSE domain.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
