LEPP VPN service (Computing/CmpGrp.OpenVPN / ZeroShell) changing to CLASSE authentication

Currently, users of the LEPP VPN service use their Unix Interactive (otherwise known as LNS.CORNELL.EDU Kerberos Credentials) to authenticate. These are the same credentials (userid and password) you use to log in to a Linux computer.

Starting today, Monday October 1st, you can optionally choose to authenticate to the CLASSE domain. Add '@classe.cornell.edu' to the end of your CLASSE username and then use your CLASSE password.

Next Monday, October 8th, we will switch the default authentication to use CLASSE rather than your Unix Interactive. When that happens, using your CLASSE username will work without the suffix '@classe.cornell.edu' and your older Unix Interactive credentials will only work if suffixed by '@lns.cornell.edu'.

If you do not know your CLASSE credentials (used to log in to Windows 7), please submit a service ticket.

LNX200 (NX Server) upgrade scheduled for 10am Tuesday, 10/2

LNX200, LEPP's NX server, will be upgraded to SL6 starting at 10am Tuesday, October 2. Please logout of lnx200 (NX) before 10am. Any sessions still running at 10am will be lost. Users should expect lnx200 to be down for most of the day, and possibly into Wednesday. LNX201 can be used via SSH or VNC while lnx200 is unavailable. For instructions, please see: https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/Computing/RemoteLinux

General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our NewsLetter and via CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12 noon to 2:00 PM.

Unless other arrangements have been made, CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see SystemExpectations.
