On Tuesday October 29, the default version of matlab for all Scientific Linux 5 and 6 computers will be updated to 2013a. Previous versions of matlab will still be available from the command-line using, for example,

Linux authentication prompt
As previously announced, all Linux systems have been updated to explicitly notify you of which credentials to use when logging in. To suppress this and other warning and diagnostic messages, you can use
ssh -q
. For example, this may be helpful for automated cron tasks that use an ssh.
If you have not already done so, we would like to again encourage everyone to set their CLASSE, LNS Interactive, and LNS Network passwords to the same value. This will simplify your access to all CLASSE resources and negate any impact from moving individual systems and services between CLASSE and LNS. For more information, please see
CLASSESinglePassword (
https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/Obsolete/CLASSESinglePassword). If you would like any assistance testing or changing any of your CLASSE passwords, please email
service-classe@cornell.edu or use the Web form at

Apple Mavericks: Please wait to install until fully tested with CLASSE and CIT Services and applications.
The just released version of Apple's operating system, Mavericks, has not yet been fully tested with CLASSE or CIT infrastructure services (e.g. Office 365), applications and compilers. Several incompatabilities already have been found. We recommend that you please wait to upgrade until we have completed our verification of critical applications and services. We will post all updates of our findings in future newsletters.
Autodesk Inventor 2013 / Vault client / Vault server patch roll-out: Wednesday Oct. 30th.
CLASSE IT will be pushing out a set of Inventor 2013 Vault client / server updates that will be installed early Wednesday morning on October 30th on CLASSE-managed systems. The Vault client on user systems
must be patched at the same time as the Vault server to insure compatibility. Please check in your work on PC49 on Tuesday by 6:00 PM so that a Vault backup can be performed prior to the installation of the server update. CHESS Inventor users should submit a service request to have the vault client patch installed Wednesday morning. See:
https://wiki.classe.cornell.edu/Computing/ServiceRequest
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
